President Yoweri Museveni has pledged to support Somalia’s bid to join the East African Community (EAC) and exploit trade opportunities that exist in the region.

Earlier this week, Somalia’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Uganda for a 2-day visit.

Museveni applauded Mohamud and his entire government for demystifying the lies of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group and for tirelessly working to isolate and decisively defeat them, in order to ensure total peace for Somalia.

Museveni assured Mohamud of Uganda’s support in Somalia’s application to join the EAC. He said that Somalia fulfills all the requirements to join the bloc, which includes; sharing a border with one of the member countries, having a private sector-led economy, and being a democratic country.

EAC has seven partner states: Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Tanzania, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
