Opposition strongman and leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, has rebuked President Yoweri Museveni for trying very hard to make the population hate elections.

Speaking during an interview on NTV this morning, the former presidential candidate said that elections have become meaningless in Uganda.

“Democracy means transparent elections and fairness. These elections are not free or fair. In Soroti, they arrested the FDC president and leaders, including the Deputy Lord Mayor and all agents, but this is not the first time it has happened,” said Bobi Wine.

Meanwhile, in 2019, Bobi Wine rebuked former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party strongman, Dr. Kizza Besigye, over claims that Museveni can’t be ousted through democracy.

Bobi Wine was speaking during an event in which the Democratic Party (DP) was signing a coalition agreement with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Michael Mabike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Abed Bwanika.

“For a leader to say a vote can never oust Museveni without offering a solution is disappointing. We believe in democracy and it should not depend on us but on the people. What politicians can not solve, the people of Uganda can solve. They should continue to register as voters and be many,” Bobi said.

“Don’t talk about democracy and stand four times and on the fifth time you say it doesn’t work, we believe it works,” he added.

The NUP leader now believes that the opposition can only use the elections as a mobilization tool.

“It’s an opportunity to meet people. I am not allowed to hold political gatherings even though there is a provision for it in the law but everyone is allowed to do that except me,” said Bobi Wine.

He has urged the opposition stakeholders to preach unity.

“As opposition, we need to be united on every front. In the 2021 presidential elections, I emphasized unity because had we been united, the results would have been different,” he said.
