Panga-wielding thugs kill police officer at checkpoint, steal two guns

Machete-wielding thugs attacked police officers, manning the traffic checkpoint at Kiwumpa village, Kiwumpa parish, Luwero sub-county in Luwero district, killing one officer.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, revealed that the incident happened around 12.00 noon.

“A group of assailants armed with machetes emerged from both sides of the checkpoint in a coordinated manner, and attacked the two field force officers, who were armed and providing security to four other officers at the checkpoint,” said Enanga.

“The assailants hacked PC Josephat Twinamatsiko on the head and face. His colleague, PC Busingye Ronald, was cut at the back. Both their guns were robbed immediately,” he added.

He further revealed that the assailants proceeded and set fire, using petrol, to a parked lorry Fuso box body, which had developed a mechanical problem.

Police said that the motivation for the violent attack and murder has not yet been established, although it appears they targeted guns for robbery.
