“Mao as a person lobbied for the job, “DP’s Lulume Bayiga reveals it’s not a party decision to cooperate with NRM

Buikwe South Member of Parliament, Dr. Lulume Bayiga, has insisted that the working cooperation agreement between the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Democratic Party (DP), a party he subscribes to, is an individual decision, not a processed party decision.

Lulume reveals that he exclusively talked to Mao, and he (Lulume) expressed his dissatisfaction with the whole deal.

He claims that the move to sign the deal was personal as Mao only involved his close associates.

Why displaying the National Voters Register matters

“Mao was just job hunting. And that’s the reason he signed the cooperation agreement, “says Lulume.

He adds, “Once President Museveni lost the former speaker of Parliament, he lost a very crucial person in Northern Uganda and had become vulnerable.” He needed a replacement in Mao.”

Lulume, however, asserts that it’s okay for Mao to lobby for a job for himself and his associates as long as they make it clear that this is not a party position.

It’s on such grounds that Lulume wants Mao to relinquish his position as party president and take on the ministerial post.

“Democratic Party will soon have a new President. We shall call on our colleagues to rejoin us, and DP will again be strong,” he says.

Meanwhile, more DP MPs, including Richard Lumu and Richard Sebamala, are against the cooperation agreement.

They fault Mao for not consulting the party structures and not giving a formal resignation when he accepted the ministerial job.
