Team Uganda: How to follow and watch the World Athletics Championships 2022

The 2022 World Athletics Championships kicks off today, Friday in Eugene, Oregon, United States. The event will run from July 15–24, 2022.

The 10-day grand sporting event will host 2,000 athletes representing more than 200 nations, who will aim to give their best performance across 49 track and field disciplines and realize their lifelong dream.

Uganda is well represented at the event as the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) announced that a team of 18 athletes will take part.

Joshua Cheptegei, who is the 10,000m and 5000m world record holder, will lead the country’s charge, heading a strong contingent that will include, Peruth Chemutai, a gold medalist in 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and Stella Chesang, winner of a gold medal in 10,000m at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Others are; Women: Immaculate Chemutai (Marathon), Stella Chesang, Mercycline Chelangat (10,000m), Ester Chebet (5,000m), Peruth Chemutai (3000m Steeplechase), Winnie Nanyondo (1,500m), Halimah Nakaayi (800m), Sheda Leni (400m).

Men: Felix Chemonges, Fred Musobo, Jackson Kiprop (Marathon), Jacob Kiplimo, Stephen Kissa (10,000m), Peter Maru, Oscar Chelimo (5,000m), Ronald Musagala (1,500m), Tartis Orogot (200m).

Friday, July 15, 1500m heats

Winnie Nanyondo opens the competition for Uganda on the first day of the competition.

Saturday, July 16,

10,000m finals

Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo, and Stephen Kisa will be out to compete. This is Uganda’s biggest hope for medals.

3,000m steeplechase heats

Olympic gold medalist Peruth Chemutai will be in the heats. Finals for 3,000m steeplechase will be on Wednesday, July 20th.

1500m heats

Ronald Musagala will be in the 1500m heats. The semi-finals for 1500m men will be on Sunday, July 17, and the finals will be on Tuesday, July 19th.

Sunday, July 17

Marathoners Jackson Kiprop, Felix Chemonges, and Fred Musobo will be out to emulate Stephen Kiprotich in the 42-kilometer marathon.

10000m final (women)

Stella Chesang and Mercyline Chelangat take part.

Monday, July 18

200m heats

US-based Tarsis Orogot, will compete in 200m heats.

Thursday, July 21

Halima Nakaayi starts her 800m title defence.

July 23

Esther Chebet in 5000m women
