The National Unity Platform Party has flagged off a consignment of 2500kgs of maize flour (Posho) and 2500kgs of beans to Karamoja.
This will be distributed to several families who are facing a food crisis. While flagging off the items at party headquarters in Kamwokya, NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi said that they will not wait for the government when people are starving to death.
Several people in Karamoja have reportedly died due to hunger in the past few weeks.
This comes after Napak Woman MP Faith Nakut raised an alarm this week, saying her people were dying of hunger.
Meanwhile, the government has reportedly allocated Shs135 billion to provide food to the people of Karamoja for the next three months.
For many years, the people of the Karamoja Sub-region have been facing high levels of food insecurity.
