Ssegirinya, Ssewanyana unhappy with opposition MPs for abandoning them while in prison

Members of Parliament (MPs) Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Sewanyana are reportedly unhappy with the opposition for abandoning them while in prison.

The duo was first arrested on September 7, 2021, alongside seven others in connection to the panga killings in the greater Masaka district.

In the same month, the two were granted bail but were shortly re-arrested from the outskirts of Kigo prisons on fresh murder charges.

Renowned media personality Kasuku recently visited the two MPs at Kigo Prison to see how they are doing.

The visit came a few days after the international crimes division of the High court dismissed an application filed by Ssegirinya and Sewanyana in which they were seeking compensation of Shs 300 million and a declaration that their rearrest, shortly after being granted bail was a violation of their human rights.

According to Kasuku, the duo is unhappy that the opposition is not doing enough to make sure that they are set free.

“Ssegirinya told us that a few opposition MPs have visited them,” said Kasuku.

Kasuku claimed how Ssegirinya told him that Bobi Wine real name Robert Kyagulanyi has visited him twice in the last eight months. He also said that MPs Kazimbwe Bashir, Abed Bwanika, and Muwanga Kivumbi among others have never visited the jailed MPs.

“According to Ssegirinya, Ssemujju Nganda, Muhammad Nsereko, Shammim Malende, Joseph Ssewungu and a few others have visited them,” said Kasuku.

He further stated that the MPs are disappointed in the fact that the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among and Leader of Opposition Mathius Mpuuga are not putting enough pressure on the government to release them.
