As Ugandans are struggling to make ends meet due to a sharp increase in the prices of essential products, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has disclosed that the government will not intervene in the rising prices.

During the State of the Nation address earlier this week, President Yoweri Museveni blamed the situation on the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the raging war in Ukraine.

Speaking during an interview this morning, Nabbanja stated that Ugandans are lucky to have President Museveni because he understands the economy.

However, she said that the government will not intervene in the rising prices.

“When President Idi Amin did it people started hoarding commodities,” said Nabbanja.

Just like Museveni said during the address, Nabbanja also believes that subsidies are not sustainable.

“If we lower the taxes, we are hindered from doing our job. We need to pay salaries and equip hospitals with medicine. Opposition may be pushing for lowered taxes because they want to destabilize the country,” she said.
