Senior four student commits suicide inside school dormitory

Police in Jinja are investigating the circumstances under which Josephine Namuli, a 17-year-old senior four student of Wanyange Girls SSS in Kakira Town Council, committed suicide by hanging.

Namuli’s body was found hanging on her bed in the dormitory on Tuesday at 7 a.m.

Reports from the school suggest that the deceased remained in the dormitory while her colleagues went for the morning preps.

James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police spokesperson, said that they have kicked off investigations to find out what led the 17-year-old to commit suicide.

“The reason might be from family, school, or even her own personal life,” he said.

Mubi further implored school heads to earmark interaction spaces for children and to be well equipped with counselors mandated to engage students about their daily personal and general challenges to avert stressful situations.
