Omoro by-election: Andrew Oulanyah declared winner

The son of the late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah has been declared the winner of the Omoro county parliamentary seat after posting the highest number of votes in the by-election.

According to the results announced by Omoro district returning officer, Kagona Moses, the NRM candidate, Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, garnered 14,224 votes, while his closest contender, Simon Toolit Akecha, from the National Unity Platform Party, got 1,633 votes.

FDC’s Odong Justine polled 529 votes, Terrence Odon got 532 votes, Jimmy Walter Onen got 95 votes, while Oscar Kiiza, who represented the Alliance for National Transformation party, polled only 63 votes.

The Omoro County seat fell vacant following the death of former area MP Jacob Oulanyah. He passed away on March 20, 2022, in Seattle, Washington, United States, barely a year after being voted Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
