OMORO BY-ELECTION: Four nominated on first day

Four candidates were nominated for the Omoro county parliamentary seat on the first day of nomination.

The nominations were held at Omoro District Council Hall, Omoro, and were presided over by Moses Kagona, the district returning officer.

Onen Jimmy Walter (Independent), Ondonga Terence (Independent), Tolit Simon (National Unity Platform), and Kizza Oscar (Alliance for National Transformation) were declared nominated to contest for the seat of directly elected Member of Parliament.

FDC’s flag bearer Dick Denis Owani did not show up for the nomination yesterday. However, the nomination exercise resumes today and more candidates are expected.

The Omoro County Constituency Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of the former Member of Parliament and former Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah on March 22 2022.

Meanwhile, EC also nominated; Lalam Florence (National Resistance Movement), Lawino Franka (Independent), and Aneka Christine (Uganda People’s Congress) to contest for the post of District Woman Councillor representing Lalogi/Lakwaya Electoral Area, while Oryema Terence (National Resistance Movement) and Odida Jackson (Democratic Party) were nominated to contest for the post of Councillor for Older Persons representing Acet Town Council.

The nomination exercise concludes today and, thereafter, campaign meetings will be held from May 16th to May 24th, with polling scheduled for Thursday, May 26, 2022.
