Eat your money; children will make theirs – Katikkiro Mayiga advises parents

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has advised parents to stop over pampering their children in the guise of saving wealth for them.

While appearing in an interview on NTV’s Mwasumutya show, Mayiga said that in trying to make life simpler for children, many parents have spoilt them.

“Children in many homes cannot wash plates or their underwear. In the end, children want big/good things but cannot think big, and that’s why they find it hard to sustain their parents’ wealth when they die, “Mayiga said.

Mayiga believes that though parents should strive to be close to their children, they should also draw a line between pampering and grooming them.

He advised parents to enjoy their money as children will be able to make theirs.

“Children need to be appropriately groomed instead of saving wealth for them. Parents should eat their money; children will make theirs, “he said.

However, he cautioned about the laxity in raising the boy child.

“The focus has been on raising girl children in many homes. Who cares about the boy child?” he asked.
