Mpaka Records CEO Wycliffe Tugume, better known as Ykee Benda, has strongly come out and revealed that he owns the brand name for his signee, Dre Cali and that if he wants to move on as an artist, he will have to change it.
This is after the allegations that singer Dre Cali flew out to Canada amid lawsuits from his former management, Wyse Technologies Limited, and the fact that his social media pages have been inactive for some weeks now and he is yet to release a statement about the developments that drew attention that he had quit Mpaka.
However, the Mpaka boss said that Dre Cali can’t go to any record unless he is going to change his name.
While speaking on a local television show yesterday, Ykee Benda was asked about the reports, and he revealed that it might be true that the singer is not in the country because he has also not talked to his signee for a while, not even through text, but he confirmed that he is still a Mpaka Records singer.
“Yes. The name ‘Dre Cali’ is a brand, a trademark, and we own it as Mpaka Records. He still has a running contract with Mpaka,” Benda stated.
Dre Cali, was signed to Mpaka Records in 2019 and under Mpaka Records, he has released songs like “Ebisooka N’ebisembayo”, “Ekifuba”, “Best Thing”, “Singa Manyi” among others.
