Gov’t to check boda boda riders’ mental status before issuing them riding licenses

The Ministry of Works and Transport has started sensitizing boda boda riders on upcoming measures to regulate their operations.

Training kicked off yesterday at the Kira Road grounds. The Uganda Driver Licensing System and the police are offering training to the riders and subjecting them to medical tests before they are given riding permits. This will involve checking their mental status.

Regarding the fees for processing riding permits, the Ministry of Works has offered a reduction, hence processing a one-year permit at Shs105,000 instead of Shs135,000, and Shs135,000 for a three-year permit instead of the standard Shs230,000.

Riders shall be given uniforms depending on their division of operation.

The ministry says by July 1, 2022, no rider shall be allowed on the road without a riding permit.
