Fallen Speaker Jacob Oulanyah’s burial is to cost Shs2.5 billion according to a new report.

In a new fact published by the Daily Monitor, the Shs2.5 billion will be spent on over six items, which will include funeral services, A-Plus services, the Finance Committee, Acholi MPs, security, burial day, and fuel.

The facts come in on a day when Minister of Presidency Milly Babalanda is set to communicate the official burial proceedings of the fallen speaker.

Oulanyah’s body will be flown in on Friday, and according to the published list, A plus funeral services will be in charge of the funeral processions, with a lofty budget of Shs226 million shillings.

The finance committee has been allocated Shs248.8 million.

Since the funeral is one of the most high-profile funerals the country has had, security will be beefed up with a Shs158.5 million budget.

The burial day is expected to take home the biggest chunk of the loot, as over a billion shillings have been set aside for the day.

Acholi MPs have been allocated Shs312 million budgets as this could be based on the desire to have the funeral conducted in a traditional manner as opposed to an official one since the fallen speaker was a prominent son of Acholi soil.

While the official budget is yet to be revealed, the funeral is still expected to cost a whooping sum of money, as it is the norm with the passing of high profile government officials, with the fallen Bank of Uganda Governor being the latest.
