Positions are not the most important thing, says Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has claimed that the National Resistance Movement’s ideology of governing does not focus on who takes up a certain position but rather has its centre of interest on what is to be done.

Following the demise of Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, there has been pressure from the northern region demanding one of ‘their own’ to replace him.

However, the ruling NRM party endorsed Anita Among.

In his congratulatory message, Museveni said, “I congratulate the Rt. Hon. Anita Among and Hon. Thomas Tayebwa upon being elected NRM flag bearers for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament respectively. For us in the NRM, it is not about who, but what is to be done.”

According to Museveni, leaders should give priority to issues affecting the common person.

“Positions are not the most important thing; the important thing is the mission. We are working for Uganda and Africa,” he said.
