IUIU Law graduate commits suicide over cheating girlfriend, found hanging by roommate

Cases of suicide among youth continue to rise as an IUIU law graduate is the latest to be added to the roster.

This is according to a Twitter thread that was started by his roommate, who identifies himself as Anthony Ma.

According to the thread, Kevin was found by Anthony hanging off a t-shirt that had been improvised into a rope.

“SAD NEWS!! Today at 3 am, after coming from the concert, I found my roommate Kevin dead after he hung himself using a t-shirt. I am so depressed, “tweeted Anthony Ma, his roommate.

In the thread, Anthony Ma revealed that Kevin kept complaining that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

“He has been complaining to me that his girlfriend is cheating on him,” Anthony tweeted.

According to the deceased’s roommate, his girlfriend had not been picking up his calls and this culminated in a dispute.

“That every time he called his girlfriend at around 10 pm, her phone was always busy. This made him so angry that they even ended up exchanging bad words. Now the girl told him that she is no longer interested in him and even blocked his contacts, “he added.

The thread attracted the sympathy of Police AIGP Asan Kasingye, who made an authoritative comment on the issue.

“Oh, dear. It’s sad. Signs of depression come early and you need psychosocial support. You too need counseling because the experience of finding your roommate hanging in your room may never heal, “he commented.

Kevin graduated last year 2021 for Bachelors of Law at IUIU main campus in Mbale.

According to a suicide prevention website, suicide is so common among college students as many students are living away from home for the first time and have less access to support from friends and family. This, therefore, leaves students vulnerable to mental health difficulties and challenges.
