Senegal declares national holiday to celebrate first-ever AFCON title

Senegal’s President Macky Sall has declared Monday a public holiday to celebrate the national football team’s first-ever African Cup of Nations title.

Previously, ‘The Lions of Teranga’ have lost two AFCON finals in 2002 and 2019.

However, last night the team managed to take the crown home following their victory against Egypt.

Liverpool star Sadio Mane kicked the last spot-kick that oversaw his side defeat Mohamed Salah’s Egypt 4-2 in a shoot-out. The game had finished goalless after extra time.
