Fire incident at Vivo Energy Uganda
11 people were injured in a fire that broke out at Vivo Energy Uganda depots in Kampala on Wednesday evening.
According to a statement released on Thursday morning, the injured were rushed to International Hospital Kampala where they are currently receiving treatment.
“We can confirm that 11 people from the depot and a nearby street vendor, unfortunately, sustained injuries as a result of the incident and were immediately rushed to International Hospital Kampala (IHK), where they are currently receiving treatment,” the company said in a statement released to media.
“Three of these are currently in intensive care, a further one is in the high dependency unit, and the remaining eight people are being treated for minor injuries. We have contacted all these individuals’ families and will be remaining in close contact with all the admitted to monitor their condition and ensure they are receiving the very best treatment and medical attention,” the statement added.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
Renovation of Namboole stadium underway
Renovation of Mandela National Stadium, Namboole has kicked off on Wednesday with the construction of the perimeter wall.
Hamson Obua, State Minister for Sports and Education officially handed over the site to the UPDF Engineering Brigade.
The stadium has not hosted any international competition for almost two years since it was banned by the world football governing body, FIFA.
The perimeter wall around the stadium land will cost Shs3.8 billion. Construction of the perimeter wall is expected to take the next four months. The bigger renovation and upgrade of the inside stadium facilities will cost Shs97 billion, lasting for at least nine months.
Brig Kulayigye appointed new UPDF spokesperson
President Yoweri Museveni who is also the commander in chief of the armed forces on Friday appointed Brig Felix Kulayigye as the new UPDF and Ministry of Defence spokesperson.
“Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has been appointed Defence Spokesperson, replacing Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso currently attending National Defence College Uganda. We welcome back Gen Kulayigye to the Office of Defence Spokesperson,” Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu who has been serving in the acting capacity announced.
Kulayigye replaces Brig Flavia Byekwaso was earlier this year was sent to the National Defence College for a one year course.
MP Bwanika brews controversy in NUP
This week, Kimanya Kabonera legislator Dr. Abed Bwanika Bwanika proposed to have NUP leadership hold a political dialogue with Museveni to secure freedom of the incarcerated party members.
Bwanika’s proposal caused a stir in NUP as many seemed to be against his move.
NUP party has faulted Bwanika for making statements about holding negotiations with Museveni without consulting the party.
The party said that they can never negotiate with the government.
Opposition MPs walk out of Parliament in protest of torture
A section of Members of the Opposition in parliament marched out of plenary, paralyzing House business on Thursday afternoon.
The members, led by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga marched out in protest of the alleged injustice, and torture of citizens.
The group would later sit on the stairs leading up to the parliament entrance chanting: “We want freedom” “Free our people”.
The legislators noted that they want a response from the Government.
