SMACK League returns for fifth edition, dedicates new season to uplifting lives of 5000 women and children

The fifth edition of the SMACK League kicks off this Sunday, January 30 at Legends Rugby Grounds with a pre-season tournament.

The memorial cup will be held in honour of their departed long-serving sports master, Kigozi Kafumbe.

All the 20 teams that will be participating in the SMACK League will play part in the one-day tournament that’s also met to prepare the teams for the league that kicks off on February 13.

The SMACK League CEO, Hillary Ainomugisha noted this year’s league has new entrants and that is the class of 2017 (Knights).

The initiative was started in 2016 by the old boys of St Mary’s College Kisubi with 12 teams but now the numbers have grown to 20 teams. The league has been won by different teams with team Devils (2004) winning the first two seasons, Window (2003) winning Season 3 and the current defending champion being Alks (2007).

The league will have 19 match days in total and on every match day, 10 games will be played.

More fun has been added to the competition as ladies that attend their events will have Zumba classes. This, in addition to a variety of kids’ activities.

Hillary said that for the past seasons they have held successful campaigns for social causes like; blood donation drives, paying school fees for underprivileged children among other things, and this new season it will be bigger and better as they target uplifting lives of 5000 women and children across the country.

Participating teams in Season 5 include; Maama Teo Legends (1997 and below), Bushmen (1993), Vendors (1999), Kiama (2000), Bushmen (2001), Block Owners (2002), Window (2003), Devils (2004), Outcasts (2005), Zimbaz (2006), Alqz (2007), Elite (2008), Zuluz (2009), Tsunamiz (2010), Mafiaz (2011), Pirates (2012), Cyclones (2013), Vikings (2014), Lycans (2015) and Knights (2017).
