Godfrey Jemba Matte has been transformed into the internet’s new meme courtesy of his picture that has gone viral when reading announcements at a funeral.
Ugandans have developed humorous captions for photos that have since been massively shared on social media.

Speaking during an interview on a local TV, the 68-year-old said he has been an announcer at funerals for about a year. Jemba however revealed that he performs the task voluntarily and he was surprised to see his picture going viral.
“I don’t do it as a job. I am only a volunteer. But wellwishers end up giving me some money as they now have trust in what I do,” said Mzei Jemba.

Mzei Jemba is a resident of Mbulakati village, Kitibwa sun-county in Kayunga district. He said that he earns a living from farming and tax collecting from the village market.
“I have been a tax collector since 1982,” he said.
About his education, Jemba dropped out of school in 1976 after finishing Senior Four.

“During those days we used to sit for Cambridge Certificate of Education. When I got my certificate, I started hustling on my own,” he said.
He explained that limited exposure to what was next for his education journey was the reason he dropped out of school.
