Police have busted a criminal gang operating under a rebel name called Uganda Coalition Forces of Change (UCFC).
Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson says the group targets police officers to get guns.
“They also look at officers as their enemies and an obstacle to overthrow the government,” says Enanga.
He reveals that eight suspects connected to the new rebel outfit, have been arrested.
“Our teams managed to build on intelligence that they had gathered, and today we carried out a successful raid on them in a wetland in Kassanda District,” he states.
Two police guns that had been robbed from the police officers (deceased) have so far been recovered.
“Efforts are in place to track down all the members of the group. The eight have been charged with four counts of murder, terrorism, and being in possession of dangerous weapons,” he says.
Enanga further discloses that the gang revealed to their intelligence team that they were recruited from areas of Wakiso and confessed to having murdered police officers in Busunju and Kiboga on the 7th & 17th of December respectively.
