National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has declared that the party aspirant for Kayunga L.C 5 Chairperson Harriet Nakweede will be going to court to challenge the declaration of National Resistance Movement candidate Andrew Muwonge as Kayunga L.C 5 chairperson.
On Friday, the Electoral Commission declared Andrew Muwonge the winner of the highly contested by-election. He gathered 31830 votes against Nakweede’s 31380 votes.
Speaking during the party press conference today in Kamwokya, Bobi Wine claimed that Nakweede won the election by over 36,000 votes.
He said that they did not expect the EC to declare them winners in the general elections, they still didn’t expect the EC to declare them winners in Kayunga but nevertheless went into the elections to expose the regime furthermore.
The former presidential candidate further stated that the judiciary will yet again have a chance to redeem itself claiming that it embarrassed itself during the presidential elections.
Bobi Wine said it’s the duty of every Ugandan to organize, mobilize and sensitize to fight and push out the dictatorship.
He insisted that NUP has no control over those who will choose violent means and Museveni will only have himself to blame.
Meanwhile, Nakweede claimed that a lot of irregularities were committed during the election. These include; bribery, vote stuffing, and targeted violence on her supporters among other incidents.
“I believe the Museveni of 1986 went to the bush to fight because of a rigged election. I am looking for that Museveni to go and tell the Gen. Museveni of today that elections in Kayunga were rigged,” said Nakweede.
