Entertainment continues to be one of the most suffering sectors in Uganda.

The entertainment sector, specifically, music, has been dealt a couple of blows, such as, the bottlenecks that have come with the Coronavirus era, lack of regulations and supporting laws, and brutal competition from other African game players.

According to phenomenal singer, A Pass Bagonza, radio and television personalities are some of the biggest contributors to the problems in Uganda’s music industry.

A pass said when radio and television personalities accept money from artistes to play their music, it is how real talent is never given an audience.

A pass made these remarks in a tweet that condemned the corruption vice among the fourth estate.

“Ugandan Radio & Tv people should stop taking money to play music in Uganda. That’s how real talent is never given a chance. You get paid to play weak artists over & over, people don’t like the songs but because they are overplayed, they start to think that’s the best music,“ said A Pass in a tweet.

The singer who doubles as a songwriter further stressed that many artists are putting in good work but are denied a chance because mediocre music is played by force.

“There are so many artists out there doing a good job but are not given a chance because some artists & managers play DJs, Tv programs directors, and presenters & Radio guys to make you drink the music by force. This will not help the industry grow. But I thank the internet,” he said.

A Pass’ remarks come in at a time the Uganda music industry continues to suffer from various elements such as the lockdown and restrictions threatening the business further.

When compared to neighbours Tanzania, Kenya, and other continental juggernauts such as Nigeria, Ugandan music is evidently lagging behind with various actors trying their best to figure out where the bottlenecks are.
