When crocs first emerged in the early 2000’s, many people considered them ugly. After close to two decades, crocs have gradually become popular. During the 2020 lockdown, almost everyone was rocking a pair of crocs.

And as the demand for Crocs across the world continues to rise, Matooke Republic has compiled some reasons why the original footwear is costly.

The material used

Croslite, the material used to make crocs is expensive. The resin material is neither plastic nor rubber. It has an extraordinary impact-absorbing resin material which was developed for maximum cushioning.

Maintains foot health

Its properties help resist odour, inhibit bacterial and fungal growth, and are non-toxic.

Provides comfort

The footwear is also very comfortable and reliable for instance no matter how wet the shoes became, you can never slip out of them. This versatile material can be worn next to the skin and be cleaned with just soap and water.
Due to its lightweight, the crocs are extremely comfortable and its unique design discourages sweating.

High-quality material

While making crocs, they can’t use low-quality versions of the resin because it would make the Crocs too soft or too rigid.
To ensure the crocs are of high-quality, more materials are needed, and those materials need to fit the standards. Hence the expensive price tags on Crocs.
Durability
Crocs are durable, the resin material makes them waterproof. The modal of crocs reduces the chances of developing toe and foot fungus because it’s made in a way that allows the shoe to breathe.

History of crocs

The unique design of crocs is an invention by three friends Scott Seamans, George Boedecker, and Lyndon Hanson who were on a trip to the Caribbean.
Seaman had just bought a clog-like shoe from a Canadian company that used foam to make their shoes.

The result was a shoe that didn’t slip.

The three realized they had a potential design for a new shoe and worked together on creating a summer shoe that would be great to wear in all types of environments and their final design is the croc.
