The Uganda Cranes will be facing Kenya’s Harambee Stars today, Thursday in the must-win World Cup qualifier Group E fixture at St Mary’s stadium, Kitende. The game kicks off at 4 pm.
Uganda Cranes coach Milutin Micho Sredejovich says that his troops are not thinking of a must-win but rather thinking on ways of how to win.
“We are planning to create a variety of attacks from which we shall score our goals or make use of any opportunities like dead balls to score goals,” says Micho.
The last four meetings between both teams have all ended level (draw), however, Cranes seek to improve their qualification chances by winning the game.
“I want us to approach the match of Kenya like there is no life after death,” says Micho.
Cranes Captain Khalid Aucho reveals that the players are ready to leave everything on the field and pick maximum points.
“My Ninjas are ready for the game against Kenya and the focus is to collect maximum points. We aren’t under any pressure because we know our opponents in and out,” says Aucho.
Uganda started its campaign with a goalless draw against Kenya at Nyayo. They also drew against Mali before managing double wins against Rwanda thanks to Fahad Bayo’s two goals. The Cranes are yet to concede a single goal in the qualifiers but scoring goals remains their biggest weakness.
Kenya now stands in Cranes qualification way as the Harambee Stars have nothing to play for. They are only playing for pride.
The top team in the group will qualify for the playoff and final round. Mali leads the group with 10 points, Uganda is second with 8 points, Kenya is third with two points while Rwanda has one point.
