Kenya has fazed Uganda Cranes’ hopes of World Cup qualification. The Harambee Stars have no chance of qualifying but they have caused a slight upset to Uganda following a 1-all draw at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende this evening.
Kenya started the game very relaxed and created better chances than Uganda. Cranes’ only chance in the 28th minute came when teenager Bobosi Byaruhanga took a hard-hit free-kick against Kenya’s goalkeeper who failed to collect the ball but forced a rebound which defender Bevis Mugabi failed to put at the back of the net.
After the long break, both teams shared the possession until Kenya got a breakthrough in the 60th minute. Captain Michael Olunga put the visitors ahead after Cranes defenders failed to clear a freekick.
Cranes’ Fahad Bayo scored in the 89th minute to equalise.
Uganda remains second with nine points. Top placed Mali with 10 points play away against Rwanda this evening.
If Mali beats Rwanda, Uganda will be out of the qualification race.
Cranes face Mali on Sunday in the last group game.
