Dr. Kedrees Turyagyenda, the Ministry of Education and Sports Director Education standards has disclosed that the calendar on how to reopen schools is now with the top management for review and approval before they can roll it out to the public.
Schools have been closed for about 17 months and President Museveni revealed that they will be fully reopened in January 2022.
According to Dr. Turyagyenda, they have been able to meet and consult various people about the strategy of reopening.
“We have come up with strategies that I think will enable us to reopen once and for all.
The roadmap for reopening will be made available to the public soon. We still have some time to January, and we shall have the roadmap available as soon as possible,” said Dr. Turyagyenda while appearing on NBS TV this morning.
However, she revealed that there is a possibility that some schools may not open as they are yet to fulfill the reopening requirements such as washing equipment and temperature guns among other things.
“We have directed that they announce so that parents can take their children to other schools,” she said.
On the possibility of hiked fees, once schools reopen, Dr. Turyagyenda said that as the Ministry, they care about the parents and so they should utilize the government facilities if they feel they cannot afford the fees in private schools.
“The government has mass education facilities in place. Parents can take their children to these government-supported schools if they can’t afford the fees in private schools,” she said.
