Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hilary Onek, has threatened to resign over the conduct of Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

In a letter dated October 29 addressed to PM Nabbanja, Onek said that since Nabbanja was appointed into office, he has been observing her with total displeasure as she intentionally took up their roles as a ministry.

“This is quite evident by the way you have been calling for meetings, going for disaster-affected places, and visiting refugee settlements without informing my office or that of my deputy,” reads a letter in part.

He adds, “To my shock, my staff who I supervise are the ones being called for meetings and not the line minister.”

Onek also complains about the PM taking over the responsibility of distributing relief items.

“I have worked with the previous Prime ministers and all long I know that their constitutional role is to coordinate legislative agenda, lead government business in parliament and monitor all ministries and government programs.

They never got involved in the micromanagement of other ministries. If you decide to micromanage other ministries, what then is the role of sector ministers who are supposed to plan, make policies, and deliver on the manifesto of HE the president?” reads the letter in part.
