Universities and other tertiary institutions are set to reopen after students spent at least four months at home following their closure by the government over Covid-19.
Among the Universities that have been in high spirits to open their gates to students is Uganda Christian University (UCU).
UCU today took to its official Twitter handle to announce the official opening of the institution.
“We’ve officially opened for in-person classes, TODAY! First-year students checking in” read the tweet.
The institution’s high spirits were further affirmed by the accompanying hashtag which read #OPENatlast.

Tweeps however were curious about the unusual sights. A one Kwesiga Raymond tagged the University and the alumni and questioned, “What’s this?”
In response, the University responded that it was guaranteeing the safety/security of our students noting the fact that it did not want surprise explosions.
The reason is more than valid as security measures have been stepped up notches higher in various places following the recent explosions that have put the citizenry at panic.
However, some tweeps were unfazed. A one Kyazze Fahad tweeted inquiring whether the people present in the picture were year ones or s.1s.
A tweep that goes by the username Bunny wa Messi further trolled the security guard’s uniform and liked it to the Naalya School Uniform.
Another user was curious to know whether UCU was a high school based on the fact that students’ property was being checked.
UCU has had mixed reactions time and again over its strict policies such as dress code, class attendance, among others.
The National Council for Higher Education(NCHE) last month issued guidelines for reopening and stated that the institutions should reopen in a staggered manner while prioritizing first-year students.
