President Museveni has announced that schools, bars, and the rest of the economy will be opened in January 2022 whether people go for vaccination or not.
While delivering his national address yesterday evening, Museveni said that the country now has plenty of vaccines and by the end of December 2021, more than 12 million Ugandans should be vaccinated.
“Now that the vaccines are available the economy will be fully reopened in January. Whether you are vaccinated or not. If anything goes wrong, the moral responsibility is yours,” said Museveni.
He advised that bar workers and market vendors should be included as the priority groups to receive the vaccines.
On those who have been blaming the government for not quickly opening up the economy, he said; “All the complications that come with school closure, like teenage pregnancies, loss of school time, etc., are reversible. Death is irreversible.
Young mothers can go back to school and study. Dead people cannot.”
Uganda has closed schools the longest in the world. Schools have been closed for about 17 months.
