Khatz Moniq Apparel is a Ugandan based contemporary ethical brand with a story. The brand was founded by Khatokho Monica and Mwambukya Peace who attended fashion school at Dyna Vence School of Fashion. The brand was named after Khatokho Monica who was diagnosed with a rare condition known as Cushing’s Syndrome.
Khatz says the challenges she faced and continues to face acted as an inspiration to the birth of the brand with a slogan “Rare and Unique.”
Today being Scar Appreciation Day(22nd Oct), the brand has released a mini-collection called “The Girl Boss” collection as a way of appreciating Monica’s scars that kept the sand in the hour glass of her life. The Girl Boss collection entails an independent woman who is ambitious, assertive and courageous.
“These scars are like tattoos but with way cooler stories. They are a clear indication of a courageous woman who is not afraid to show the world her scars,”says Khatz.
Consequently, Monica has two scars on her belly and due to that she proudly refers to herself as a zebra. To her those scars are like a zebra’s stripes. Considering that a zebra is popularly known as a symbol of rare diseases, we decided to use a “stylish” zebra in the trademark for Khatz Moniq Apparel and this is our registered trademark.
