Uganda Cranes Head Coach Milutin Micho Sredojević has released a statement after he was yesterday found guilty of sexual abuse.
The 52-year-old Serbian was convicted on two counts of sexual assault in South Africa due to incidents that happened while he was the coach of the Zambian National team and was in South Africa to watch the regional 2020 Cosafa Under-20 Cup.
Micho says he is a law-abiding person who is ready to prove his innocence as he factually believes that the case was brought by means of character assassination to his name.
“I subjected myself to the South African justice system solely because I am a Law-abiding Person. Even when I knew that I was simply a target,” said Micho.
He refutes reports of being under arrest saying his legal representatives were allowed to appeal the court’s decision.
“My decision to take the matter on appeal is in total agreement with the Magistrate as she said ‘Another Court may arrive at a different conclusion’ which is why my pursuit can not let the perpetuation of injustice against me go unchallenged,” he says.
Yesterday, Micho was sentenced to three years imprisonment, which is suspended for five years.
