Shortly after singer Emmanual Ssuuna alias Omulangira Os Suna dragging three TV presenters and a blogger to court on charges of offensive communication and criminal libel, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has summoned presenters of eight local television stations for allegedly using abusive, demeaning, derogatory statements against different personalities.
The communications regulator said on its official Twitter page that it has received complaints that the programmes, most of which are entertainment shows, invade the privacy of individuals, contain inaccurate, misleading and unverified content as well as adult oriented content, sexual innuendos and profanity, among others.
“The Commission has specifically invited presenters as key sector players because it is alleged that the language and statements used by the presenters and guests are often abusive, demeaning, derogatory and contain unsubstantiated claims against different personalities,” UCC wrote on their official Twitter page
UCC also went ahead and revealed all the programmes complained about as Live Wire (Spark TV), Uncut Sabula and Uncut Kalakata (NBS TV), Kapyaki (Kingdom TV) Tik-Tak Sesetula (Dream TV), Access (BTM TV), Round About (BBS TV), Poko Poko (Baba TV), Short Circuit Sonsomola (Urban TV), Kachumbali (Top TV), Evening Zone (ABS TV), and Select E- Buzz (STV).
