Leader of the legal team of Makindye West legislator Allan Ssewanyana, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has disclosed that they are yet to find out his whereabouts.
Ssewanyana was re-arrested by armed security officers as soon as he was released on bail from Kigo Prison last week on Thursday.
Lukwago said they have searched almost everywhere but they are yet to locate him.
“As we talk right now, we don’t know where he is. This is an outright abuse of the law,” said Lukwago.
Today the team is set to apply for Habeas Corpus. For starters, Habeas Corpus is a writ requiring a person under arrest to be brought before a judge or into court, especially to secure the person’s release unless lawful grounds are shown for their detention.
On President Museveni speaking tough against the release on bail of suspected murderers, Lukwago said as a head of State, Museveni should know very well that presumption of justice is the bedrock of the justice system.
Ssewanyana, Kawempe North MP Ssegirinya Muhammed alongside four others have spent two weeks in prison following their arrest over the recent murders in the greater Masaka region where over 25 people were killed. They were charged with murder, attempted murder, and terrorism.
