Bush war veteran and Minister of Internal Affairs Hon. Maj. Gen (Rtd.) Kahinda Otafiire has said that it is not a mistake that NRM has led for more than 30 years as it understood the aspirations of the society.
Gen Otafire says unlike the new breed of politicians like youthful presidential hopeful Bobi Wine real name Robert Kyagulanyi, NRM mastered the ideal relationship between the leader and the led.
He claims that the bankruptcy of ideology in society creates people without ideas.
“The bankruptcy of the 1970s created Idi Amin, the current cropping bankruptcy has created Bobi Wine, a good singer but with no leadership credentials, no philosophy,” says Gen Otafiire.
He adds that it’s no surprise that a section of the public has been brainwashed by populist politicians who have nothing to offer.
“It is foolhardy to see Opposition leaders run to Americans to report issues in Uganda. Those people have their own problems to deal with. The only time they respond to our issues is when those issues touch their interests in Uganda,” he says.
The minister however says NRM is very tolerant as it allows the proliferation of divergent views.
“That’s why we listen to criticisms but we know how to criticize those that are wrong and misinformed,” Otafire says.
He adds, “The known NRM revolutionary methods of work are discipline, transparency, democracy, acceptance of criticism, criticizing the wrong, and avoiding cheap popularity.”
