Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) subscribing to the National Unity Platform (NUP) party Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North and Makindye West’s Allan Ssewanyana have been summoned by Director Criminal Investigations in Police, Paul Katto Tumuhimbise.
In the letters dated September 3 addressed to the two MPs through Parliament, Tumuhimbise says that the summons are connected to the ongoing murders in greater Masaka area.
The duo is supposed to appear before Masaka Police Station on Monday, September 6 at 10am before D/SSP Moses Taremwa to record statements.
From July, August and this new month of September, there have been rampant killings in the Masaka sub region by the machete welding gang and so far about 30 people have lost their lives.
Earlier this week, State Minister for ICT Chris Baryomunsi claimed the panga welding gang is being sponsored by politicians. Currently, there is heavy security deployment in the region and about 60 suspects have been arrested and 10 of them arraigned before court, charged with murder and remanded to Masaka prison.
