Human rights activist Dr Stella Nyanzi is organising a peaceful demonstration against the murders in Masaka district.
In less than a month, an average of two people are killed every night by panga welding men in the Masaka sub-region. As of yesterday, about 25 lives had been lost to the machete gang.
“And so, as a woman who hails from Masaka district, I have started organizing a peaceful demonstration against the unending murders of unarmed innocent civilians in Uganda. Who will join me in this peaceful protest? Who will resist this insufficiency of the state security organizations?” said Stella Nyanzi.
Security has beefed up its presence in the area and claims to have made several arrests of suspects.
Yesterday Members of Parliament from the Masaka sub-region led by Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga held a meeting in the areas with some of the victims present.
“The security agencies have asked us to give them time to implement their security plan for Masaka. Granted. Once we don’t see any tangible results, we will activate our local mechanisms,” said Mpuuga.
He revealed that some residents have started migrating to safer areas.
