Over the weekend, opposition Chief Whip, John Baptist Nambeshe survived being lynched by an angry mob after knocking unidentified cyclist in an accident that took place in Njeru Township in Buikwe district.

Nambeshe who was from Kampala heading to his constituency on Saturday is alleged to have knocked and injured a person but later tried to escape from the scene.

Some eyes witnesses accused Nambeshe of refusing to stop after realising that he had knocked a person but boda boda riders went after him until he was intercepted.

According to the eye witness, the mob repeatedly hit Nambeshe’s vehicle and threatened to set it ablaze. Jimmy Lwanga, the Njeru Municipality MP said that the legislator who was driving a government vehicle was only saved after he was identified by the National Unity Platform supporters as one of them.

He was later taken to police station to make a statement.

“I was involved in a minor accident at Mbikko-Njeru Municipality on Kampala-Mbale highway while heading to my constituency of Manjiya in (Bududa district). I survived without a single injury and my driver is also safe,” Nambeshe later tweeted.
