US President Joe Biden has allocated up to $500 million (about Shs1.7 trillion) in aid for refugees and migrants who have had to flee Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power.
The White House said US President Joe Biden had taken the sum from emergency funds and allocated it to meet Afghans’ “unexpected” and “urgent” needs.
So far, US, United Kingdom and Uganda are some of the countries that have accepted to host Afghan refugees.
Yesterday Uganda government announced that on request from US it is set to temporarily host 2,000 Afghanistan refugees given the political unrest in their country. 500 refugees are expected to arrive at Entebbe International Airport today.
Gov’t further revealed that the United States will cover costs incurred during the Afghanistan refugees’ stay.
Uganda hosts the highest number of refugees (about 1.5 million) in Africa.
