With health workers being at the frontline in the fight against the deadly COVID-19, Members of Parliament have asked government to offer a compensation of Shs100m to the family of each health worker who succumbs Covid-19 in the line of duty.
Just last month of June, 14 health workers contracted COVID-19 while on duty and later died. Many of these are said to have contracted the deadline coronavirus due to lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Herbert Kirobere, MP for Kibuku County said that health workers’ requirements and demands should be prioritised to enable them work safely.
The MPs also proposed special treatment centers for health workers should be gazetted.
Last week on Friday, Moses Kamabare, the Director General of National Medical Store (NMS) told parliament that their warehouses are full of PPEs and only waiting for the ministry of health to authorise the distribution.
