The swearing-in of the new KCCA councillors came to a standstill after the chief magistrate, Miriam Akello who is presiding over the ceremony asked National Unity Platform (NUP) councillor Ka taabu Moses to remove the chains and placard that was demanding for the release of political prisoners.

Akello asked Kataabu to remove them before he takes oath or else she halts the swearing in. The Lord Councillor refused claiming that his dress code violates no rules and his message on the placard is very clear to those concerned. Yesterday the General Court Martial released 17 of the NUP supporters that were arrested over five months ago during election campaigns.

Kataabu’s resistance forced Akello to adjourn the ceremony as a scuffle ensued between security team and the councillor.

The magistrate, the KCCA executive director, Dorothy Kisaka matched out. The Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago had not yet arrived by the time the chaos ensued.

However, by press time the event had been put to order and more councillors are taking oath. Lukwago will also be sworn in for the third term as the Kampala City Lord Mayor.
