The National Unity Platform (NUP) has allegedly allowed its newly elected Members of Parliament to decide for themselves on who to vote for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of parliament.

While speaking during an interview this morning, Makindye West legislator Hon. Allan Ssewanyana said nothing has been announced from the NUP leadership.

“It’s like all legislators will have to think for themselves,” said Ssewanyana.

In March, NUP formed a five-member committee to research on who the party should back for the speakership race in Parliament. Since then nothing has been communicated.

Ssewanyana said he will be the one to nominate FDC’s Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, a person he has worked with under the “People’s Government” and office of the Leader of Opposition.

“I know what he can do to improve this Parliament. As a member of the opposition, I have to fight to make sure the opposition takes over Parliament,” he said. He expects Ssemujju to win by 262 votes.
