Omoro County Member of Parliament (MP) elect Jacob Oulanyah has handed over his official car and other public items saying his term as deputy speaker expired today.
Oulanyah came clad in a blue fitting suit accompanied with a striped long-sleeved shirt and his signature bow-tie. He shortly spoke to the media.
“This is government property and my term expired today. I can’t continue holding onto government property yet I’m no longer deputy speaker,” said Oulanyah before adding that he is sure he will not be deputy speaker again.
He has been deputy speaker for two terms (2011-2016 and 2016-2021).
NRM Electoral Commission yesterday called upon its members to officially express interest for the positions Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 11th parliament.
Oulanyah is set to battle Rebecca Kadaga on who will win the NRM ticket for the speakership before battling candidates from other parties that have already been endorsed.
Forum for Democratic Change’s Ssemujju Nganda has already drawn battle line and only waiting on who the ruling party will endorse.
