The Catholic Church has released the programme for the burial of the former Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, who died in his bedroom on Saturday morning.
Father Pius Male Ssentumbwe, the Chancellor of Archdiocese of Kampala confirmed the news saying; “With deep sorrow, I hereby inform you that our beloved Shepherd, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, His Grace Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has been called to the house of the Lord. The Archbishop was found dead in his room this morning. We pray that the Almighty and Merciful God may grant him eternal rest.”
Archbishop Lwanga was last seen in public on Good Friday as he took part in this year’s public way of the cross.
According to the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese the Rt Rev Msgr Charles Kasibante, the tentative burial program for Archbishop Kizito Lwanga starts today on Monday with a Requiem Mass at Rubaga Cathedral starting at 2:00 pm.
On Tuesday (April 6), the body of the deceased Archbishop will be taken to Kyabakadde Catholic Parish Church (Located in Kyambisi Subcounty, Mukono district), where a requiem mass will be celebrated starting at 10:00 pm.
On Wednesday (April 7), the body of the Archbishop will be taken to Namugongo Catholic Martyrs Shrine (in Wakiso district), where a requiem mass will be celebrated starting at 10:00 am.
Archbishop Lwanga will finally be buried in Rubaga Cathedral on Thursday (April 8). The function will start with a requiem mass at 10:00 am and the Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, the Rt Rev Prof Joseph Antony Zziwa will preside over the requiem mass.
