Various Members of Parliament have welcomed former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s decision to challenge President Yoweri Museveni’s January 14 presidential election victory in the Supreme Court.
Though there is a mixed reaction of the outcome of the petition with the Leader of Opposition Betty Aol Ochan saying that it’s good that Bobi Wine and his National Unity Platform have tried to go to court. However, she says that they will not get the justice they yearn for as four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has done all that they’re doing but the outcome is always clear.
“Nothing good will come out from the Supreme Court,” says Ochan
For Opposition Chief whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, he wishes them luck as he says it’s going to be a learning process for them reason being they’re new in the ‘strugle.’ He says as Forum for Democratic Change they are willing to support their petition by giving them more evidence.
Yesterday on Monday Bobi Wine through his lawyers led by Medard Sseggona filed a challenge in the Supreme Court against President Museveni’s victory in last month’s election, claiming the poll was rigged.
Sseggona said that every election Museveni participates in can never be a peaceful, free and fair election.
“We want nullification of the election. We do not want Museveni to participate in any future election,” Sseggona said shortly after his team filed the petition.
It should be noted that no court in Uganda has ever overturned a presidential election.
