Mengo chief magistrate Esther Nsambu has this afternoon dismissed with costs an application for the vote recount for Kampala Central constituency filed by Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu challenging the win of incumbent Muhammad Nsereko.
Nsereko has since been upheld by the same court as the elected Kampala Central MP after Nyanzi failed to provide evidence concerning malpractices and irregularities committed by both the Electoral Commission officials and incumbent Muhammad Nsereko’s agents.
Nyanzi was defeated by the independent candidate Nsereko who got 16,998 votes against Nyanzi’s 15,975.
In his dismissed petition, Nyanzi says he was denied victory as Nsereko and his agents altered declaration of result forms and destroying original copies of the forms.
Some of the polling stations Nyanzi wanted to be recounted include, Balikudembe Primary School, KCC Primary School polling stations, Seroma Parking Yard, All saints, Martin Road, Old Kampala SS, National Theatre, Nakivubo Road, Basajjabala Taxi Park, Kampala Library and Bombo Road among others.
