Heroes of Tokyo Olympics: Cheptegei is now ASP, Chemutai is Inspector of Police

The Inspector General of Police, Martins Okoth Ochola has presided over the promotion and pipping ceremony for Police athletes that participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics games.

Gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei and his coach, Njia Benjamin have been promoted from the rank of Inspector of Police (IP) to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

“I wish to announce that at its last sitting, the Police Authority approved the promotion of IP Joshua Chepetegei and IP Njia Benjamin to Assistant Superintendent of Police. I forwarded their letter of Promotion to them,” said Ochola.

Others who have been promoted and pipped include; NO. 100 SPC Chemutai Peruth (Gold Medalist) is regraded to Police Constable and promoted from Police Constable to Inspector of Police.

No C/213 AIP Chelangat Mercyline is promoted from Assistant Inspector of Police to Inspector of Police

No. 48689 CPL Chemutai Immaculate is promoted from Corporal to Sergeant.

No. 68197 PC Shida Renny is promoted from Police Constable to Corporal.

Cheptegei and Chemutai won a gold medal each in the men’s 5,000m finals and in the women’s 3000m steeplechase race to ensure Uganda finished second among the 54 African countries and 35th overall among 206 countries that participated in the 2020 Olympics games.
