Office of the Prime Minister is at the peak of corruption- IGG Beti Kamya

The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Beti Kamya has remarked that the Office of the Prime Minister is the hub of syndicated corruption.

She made the remarks on Friday while addressing OPM staff during a one-week retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.

“These are not only mercenaries but also beneficiaries and practitioners of corruption and from whistleblowers accounts on my desk, OPM staff are chief mercenaries, practitioners, and beneficiaries of corruption.

“I don’t understand why they are that corrupt. Is it because they are the leaders of government business? They are at the peak of corruption,” she said.

The IGG made these remarks in the presence of Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, minister and OPM technocrats.

The IGG further noted that once the investigations her office is conducting against some of the officials are complete, heads will roll.

Kamya said according to the research by the corruption Perception Index in 180 countries, Uganda has always performed poorly in the graft fight.

Kamya noted that if the war against corruption is not well fought like the country has fought the war against COVID-19 and HIV, then Uganda will continue losing huge sums of money to corruption.

“As Ugandans, we are at the battlefront and this is a war that we need to fight. If we don’t come out and fight, we are more likely to lose it.

“If you think leaving this war to me will hurt me, you are wrong. I am paid every month and have allowances but this war needs to be won,” Kamya said.
