Guinness 7s: Pirates win Kigezi 7s to set up decisive Coronation 7s

Black Pirates beat leaders Betway KOBs in the Kigezi 7s final to set up a decisive finale of the National Rugby 7s next weekend.

The win sent Pirates to 99 points, three adrift table-toppers KOBS who have 102 points, going into the sixth and final circuit due November 22-23 at Legends. The circuit will be hosted by Kobs.

Against Kobs, Pirates scored three tries and converted all of them while Kobs managed only one try which they failed to convert.

Conrad Wanyama scored Pirates’ first try moments after kickoff and the conversion was utilized by skipper Ivan Magomu. Pirates went into the halftime break with a 14-00 lead after Desire Ayera touched down towards the interval.

In the second half, Kobs launched a comeback, and moments after restart Justin Kimono scored his side’s first try but it wasn’t converted.

However, Kobs’ hopes to return to the game were dented when Alex Aturinda scored Pirates’ third try towards the end of proceedings. Magomu once again converted as Bobby Musinguzi coached side earned a well-deserved 21-05 victory.
The Series was almost done a few weeks back when defending Champions KOBs won the first three (Mileke 7s, Gulu, and Soroti) of six circuits.

But Pirates have managed to dig deep to give themselves a chance going into the Coronation 7s, a two-day event that will be hosted by KOBs.

Pirates, to end up as eventual winners of the Series, will have to win the Coronation 7s and hope KOBs do not reach the final.
